John Colwill is based in Perth, Western Australia.

He has had a long involvement with many facets of the horticultural media, as a producer and presenter of radio and television programmes for the ABC and as a writer for daily newspapers, monthly magazines and journals.

He currently concentrates on promoting environmentally sustainable gardening practices. He is the principal Waterwise consultant to the Water Corporation of WA. In this capacity he develops and delivers award winning training courses for a range of horticultural industries. He has also written and produced a range of literature and developed the original, award winning ‘Waterwise Plants for WA’ database.

John was honoured by the WA Branch of the Australian Water Association in being chosen as the Water Professional of the Year for 2011/12

John is deeply involved with the Araluen Botanic Park Foundation, a volunteer organisation responsible for the restoration and development of a beautiful heritage garden in Perth’s hills.

John was an honorary member of the Nursery & Garden Industry Association of WA for many years
and is the proud winner of the 1991 Wilkie AFL (Anti Football League) medal.



John is also a keen photographer of plants with an extensive library, has travelled extensively and enjoys leading specialised garden tours.
